Mary Celeste

April 26, 2009 · 1 Comment

There is a story behind this song, a year or so ago I was heading for a new home on the other side of the world and simultaneously dealing with breaking up with my girlfriend.

A Relation-ship, abandoned.

At this time Thundercat sent me this wonderful beat.  Listening to it I felt as though I was stood alone on a moonlit deck, looking out over a calm ocean as the ship gently bobbed on the swell…”My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean”…

So, one year on and the song is made, Mary Celeste…Mary, Maria…Mar, the Latin for Sea…a relation-ship left abandoned, the question: Why?

As it turns out there is even more to it than that. When I moved to Mexico another relationship was left – that of DJ Thundercat and myself. We have spent years and years together, making music, live shows, everything (I’m pretty sure we’ve spent at least a solid fortnight playing pro-evo!). Then, suddenly, the future was uncertain, our music, our partnership, everything.

Well, this is the first song we have made together since my arrival here, proving that this relationship is far from over, and what is linking us, bringing us together across the Atlantic Ocean? A ship, The Mary Celeste:

A Letter From The Government

April 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

No, the FBI haven’t taken umbrage at any of our songs (yet), in fact it is quite the opposite – Her Majesty’s Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has been in touch to congratulate us!

To be precise, Shadow Minister for culture Ed Vaizey has written to us after reading our story in the local paper (Mr Vaizey is MP for our Shire stomping ground Wantage and Didcot).

You can read the letter for yourself here on the blog:

Thanks for checking for us Ed! And you can get your Community Spirit, CommuniTEE and poster right HERE!

Of course, as soon as Labour got wind of some positive Community work by the Conservatives they had to try and go one better the only way they know how – Cold. Hard. Cash.

Yep, in their infinite wisdom Customs and revenue have sent me a tax refund of 92 pounds and 18 British pence…from 2005!?!

CASHBACK!

Hahaha! So, yeah, for this day only “I Love The Government”….but ssssssssssshhhhhhhhh, don’t tell anybody!
